Kilkenny hurlers Michael Rice and Tommy Walsh will be showing their support at the “HB Ice-cream Funday Party” for Down Syndrome Ireland which will take place at the Irish Holstein Friesian Association National Open Day in Tom Murphy’s Farm in Ballyragget on June 20.

Tom Murphy’s farm, along with HB are expecting approximately 4000 people out in support of the charity organisation. The nationwide ice cream campaign, generously supported by HB Hazelbrook Farm and Tesco Stores has run through May and will continue throughout June with thousands of ice cream parties being hosted across Ireland.

Celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, the HB Ice Cream Fundays campaign has to date raised over €2 million for Down Syndrome Ireland. All funds raised go towards Down Syndrome Ireland’s nationwide projects, such as its early development programme, adult literacy programme, educational advice and research for parents and children, counselling and advocacy and special interest groups.

The HB Ice-cream Fundays’ campaign was created to raise awareness of what Down Syndrome is, what it means to have Down Syndrome, and how people with Down Syndrome play a vital role in our lives and communities. Commenting at today’s ice cream event Pat Clarke, Chief Executive of Down Syndrome Ireland said, “We are absolutely delighted that Michael Rice and Tommy Walsh have come down today to show their support for Down Syndrome Ireland. Without the tremendous support from Michael and Tommy, the Irish Holstein Friesian Association, HB Hazelbrook Farm, Tesco Ireland and all the fundraisers across the country, fundays like these would not be possible.”

This year Down Syndrome Ireland celebrates its 41st year. The organisation which has over 3,000 member families across 25 branches nationwide, is the largest organisation concerned with the welfare of people with a learning disability in Ireland. Down Syndrome is 95% funded by voluntary contributions and events organised by its members. To support Down Syndrome Ireland, host a HB Ice cream Funday party in June.
