Having just run another successful Rockfall festival in aid of Enable Ireland at The O’Neill Centre, it’s no surprise that Eamon Cleere is climbing the ranks of an award to note such "local heroes".

An online Charity Hero award run by Better Ireland is accepting votes until Saturday (November 5), and supporters can cast one vote per day for the candidates. Votes cast also rank the candidate up to five stars.

Eamon was in fifth place as of Wednesday morning with 1,145 votes.

As his blurb explains:

"Kilkenny City man Eamon Cleere is a man in a million – literally. In a 25-year spell Eamon has fundraised on a voluntary basis for Enable Ireland Kilkenny Services and he has raised in excess of a whopping €1.5 million over the years. Eamon has dedicated his spare time to fundraising for Enable Ireland and is responsible for many of the service’s annual fundraisers, for example the Rockfall Music Festival now in its 23rd year and the Kilkenny Floodlit Football League now in its 13th year. Eamon got involved in fundraising for Enable Ireland when his son Eamon Jr. commenced services."

"In Eamon’s words: 'It is a labour of love, my wife Margaret and I could never see our son Eamon being able to walk after he was born but all that changed when he discovered Enable Ireland Kilkenny. The centre has done brilliant work over the years for boys and girls from many families in the region. I decided that it was payback time so I devoted myself to fundraising for facilities at the centre'."
