Work on Kilkenny County Council’s Medieval Mile Museum project at St. Mary’s Church, off High Street has intensified and is moving towards completion.

Archaeological investigations within the site have been completed and have resulted in some remarkable finds which are being incorporated into the exhibition and will greatly enhance the museum display and the stories being told of the church and graveyard.

Representatives from the National Museum of Ireland visited Kilkenny this week to review work on site and are finalising the Loan Agreement for the display of the impressive archaeological finds and the installation of two high cross replicas. They are also assessing proposals by the council for the display of a number of skeletal remains uncovered at the gateway of the churchyard.

Construction work on the building, undertaken by Duggan Brothers Ltd, Templemore, is due for completion by the end of October. The museum exhibition fit-out will follow on in November. The exhibition designers Bright 3D are from Edinburgh. The museum fit-out is divided into two parts:

Exhibition joinery, museum cases & graphics by Marcon Fit-Out from Co. Antrim and Digital Content & AV displays by Centre Screen UK from Manchester.

The facility will be available in December for use as part of the new Kilkenny Christmas festival 'Yulefest Kilkenny 2016'.
