Unsung heroes from all walks of life were announced as the category winners of this year’s Kilkenny People of the Year awards.
A special ceremony took place at the Newpark Hotel last Thursday with category winners present.
Award recipients this year are Kilkenny Arts Festival Committee (Arts & Culture), The Drum Centre (Youth Work), Iverk Show Committee (Rural Development), Hannah Carty (Sport), Pat Grogan (Health and Welfare), Tom Reade (Environment), The Samaritans (Volunteerism), Anna May Mullins (Courage) and Maureen Hegarty (Hall of Fame).
The overall Kilkenny Person of the Year Award winner will be announced at a gala dinner at the Newpark Hotel on November 1.
Chairman Billy Gardiner congratulated everyone who had been nominated for an award.
“We have a superb slate of people here tonight who are all doing wonderful work . People who engage in voluntary work and shine in their community are an inspiration to us all especially in these hard times,” he added.
Hugh Maddock of Rehab noted ‘the abundance of talent in Kilkenny’. All proceeds from the night go to Rehab.
