MORE THAN THE ICE HOLDS UP CITY TRAFFIC Thursday, 14 January 2010 |
| |
| Ornithologist Ian McCullagh presumed it was the ice on the road that was causing the traffic to go so slowly past his house on the Castlecomer road in Kilkenny city. However he received a phone call from Pat Durkan of Birdwatch to say that a swan had been walking along the middle of the road for about an hour. Injured, the bird was unable to fly but Ian guided it into his front garden and looked after it there until its natural home, the lake in the Richview housing estate, thawed. The swan had been rescued by Pat Durkan and placed on the lake, but when the lake froze the bird was able to walk off the ice and onto the road. |
